HabiTable: Vertical/High-tech farming

HabiTable: Vertical/High-Tech Farming - A wise bet for Singapore?

We’re back for another virtual session of HabiTable! This time, we’ll be tackling the topic of vertical/high-tech farming with our guest Huiying. We will each quickly present our thoughts on the topic before moving into a more dialogic discussion. This will be followed by a Q&A section with contributions from participants.

As Singapore moves to embrace a future of agriculture in the form of vertical and indoor farms with high-tech systems of circulation and management, we seek to explore whether such a move is wise for Singapore and its future generations. From the lens of sustainability, land and resource use, people, and the environment, we invite participants to join us in thinking holistically about this pressing topic.

Marcus Koe is the founder of Habitat Collective, a campaign for humanity to live sustainably in our environment through permaculture and small-scale circular food systems. He believes that agriculture, food systems, and their practices should be designed holistically, beyond it's primary purpose of economic food production. He imagines a future where land stewardship and care, nutrition, ecological management, human flourishing, community, and culture are all equally relevant in well designed agricultural systems.

Huiying Ng is a writer and imaginer of worlds, working hard to keep fires of renewal and rebirth alight. She is an occasional-contributor to Foodscape Pages, draws on her research practice for reality checks about our social and technological lives, and is nurturing a world of emotional balance with myco-fishes. Check out her newsletter on food, commons and ag (hynng.substack.com)!
